HOW IT BEGAN

The origin of great change is often found in a small step: simply stop throwing stuff away!

The Zero Waste Center helps organizations to run their businesses in a circular way. In order to get hands-on experience with this, Edwin ter Velde decided to become Zero Waste in the privacy of his own home. What happens when you decide never to throw anything away anymore? What will you do with your waste materials? This was the start of a big journey.

Inspired by polar travelers Marc Cornelissen and Wilco van Rooijen, who came up with the plan to drive to the geographical South Pole in an all-terrain vehicle constructed mostly from recycled waste plastic and powered by the sun, Edwin set out to make this idea come true.

Antarctica is the most logical continent for an expedition like this. Polar explorer Robert Swan raised consciousness of the importance of renewing the Antarctic Treaty. The next generation will have to negotiate the renewal of the Treaty.

Inspired by a great range of people and ideas, Edwin set out to reach his goal in an adventurous way. Not by himself, but with anyone who feels the need for change.

AN EXPEDITION IS ALWAYS A GROUP EFFORT
